As delicate as the black-cappped chickadee appears, he is really a sturdy little bird.  In winter, he bounces around from tree to tree, seeming not to notice the frigid temperatures.  This chickadee is carved from tupelo wood.  The pine cone is  one piece of  tupelo wood  which has been stained and sealed with a clear preservative.
