Belted Kingfisher

belted kingfisher

kingfisher on perch

A solitary bird, the kingfisher feeds on small, shallow-water fish, crawfish, and frogs.  He can be seen flying swiftly ten to fifteen feet above the water. This kingfisher is carved from one piece of tupelo wood, including the many crest feathers. The base is cherry wood, finely sanded and protected with several coats of clear preservative.
